International students can now hope to stay longer in Australia after the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) announced plans to increase the duration of stay for some Temporary Graduate visas (subclass 485) from July 1, 2023. With this extensive list initiative, DHA wants to address the problem of skills shortages in key industries and rebuild the sector of international education. All doctored graduates, and certain international graduates with a Bachelor, Honours or Master’s degree will be eligible for Temporary Graduate Visa Extension with a further validity for two years if their qualification is listed on the Eligible Qualifications List of the Australian government’s department of education.

The applicants submitted between July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023 no longer need to nominate an occupation from the SOL and get skills assessment under different streams of Temporary Graduate visas.
